I was asked to make the cake for our school’s teacher appreciation day. The vanilla globe cake (using Wilton sports ball pan) sits on top of a 14″ round two-layer chocolate mousse cake covered in buttercream. I decorated with pullout grass tip, royal icing flowers, and royal icing “teachers”.
To make the teachers, I traced a gingerbread man cookie cutter onto a piece of paper and covered it with parchment paper. I traced and filled in each “person” with nude colored royal icing (thinned). Once they were dry, I decorated each teacher.
Make about 20 mini apples (red hearts with green leaf pullout). Let thoroughly dry (48 hours) and store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. Attach each icing teacher to a stick with royal icing (on back). Make sure the cake is room temperature before putting the icing figures on. Attach apples with royal icing and let dry.
Wow. This is a cool idea! You could make each teacher a cookie which is decorated to look like them. Unfortunately my teacher is much prettier than any cookie I’ve seen… Oh well maybe next year!
This is absolutely adorable! As a teacher, I can tell you we love teachers’ lounge treats, but I never got anything this cute!
wow this is really cool cake. Its a great way to appreciate what teachers do for us.really nice I like it!
