I made this kids birthday cake idea for my daughter’s 4th birthday. It is yellow cake, with chocolate pudding filling, covered with Italian meringue, flowers of sugar paste, and grass of baked coconut shavings, fresh strawberries and figures of plastic toys. Everything made from scratch… but of course, whatever is made from packed goods is fine too!

For my daughter’s 1st birthday I used a vintage Wilton Strawberry Shortcake pan to make this kids birthday cake idea. I mixed all the colours using food colouring and white store bought icing; the outlines are done in red and green icings from a tube. I made her hair look curly by using a large round piping tip and looping it around.

This Strawberry Short cake was a labor of love. It took a while to do but well worth the effort. I started with a sheet cake. I did a frozen butter cream transfer of the two characters. Because of the fine detail it was painstaking. However I have used the frozen transfers before and they look great on the cake. Worth a try. I iced it in white and after I placed the frozen transfers. I fiddled with the edges to get it smooth.

This is a Wilton Strawberry shortcake pan with 1-1/2 cake mixes, iced with butter cream icing. I just followed the directions on the pan to ice it. Turned out way cute.

For this kids birthday cake idea, I made a simple pound cake (one that you can get the recipe off any cake site or search Google). Put cake onto a foiled board, but make sure it will fit in the fridge first. I used grease paper to draw Strawberry Shortcake with dark black fine liner or texter, and then used sewing pins to hold steady on top of cake. I then pinpricked the picture onto the cake.
I used things like licorice strips for the outline of the character and used butter icing for all the rest with different food colouring. I used fresh strawberries cut in half for the hat and edges, but you can also buy lollie jelly strawberries, which work well too.
I used pink food colouring and added it to the coconut, iced the foil around the cake and sprinkled the coconut for a nice affect. This was my daughter Shaylah’s 1st birthday cake and she loved it! I had a lot of fun making it.

This kids birthday cake idea is a Strawberry Shortcake Cupcake cake. It is made with 34 cupcakes glued close together on a board. They are iced smooth on top. I have a kopykake projector and used this with an image I found on Google to trace the image on the cake and then I filled it in.

This kids birthday cake idea was my daughter’s 3-year-old cake. I used a 9×13 pan and traced the picture on. I used the Wilton Strawberry Shortcake tint kit to get the right colors. I smoothed the icing in places with a knife dipped in water.
The bow was the hardest part. I microwaved pink and green Starburst candies and rolled them out in strips. Once they were stuck together, I microwaved them again and formed a bow. Once they cooled, they were hard and able to be put on top of the cake. I used icing to “glue” a strawberry half and place on the bow!
This kids birthday cake idea was for my daughter. Both are from Wilton pans. The cake was strawberry and the icing was buttercream (the face didn’t come out to good but she loved it anyways).
I got this kids birthday cake idea from Wilton’s Cake Decorating Book and made it only 2-tier because it was for a small party.
This kids birthday cake idea is very straightforward, just 8 and 6 inch round cakes and decorate them with fondant cutouts, which can be made in advance.
In Singapore there is a very limited selection of cake toppers, so I printed out the picture of Strawberry Shortcake, had it laminated and stuck it on the top. It’s easy and cheaper too…

I got this kids birthday cake idea out of the Wilton yearbook and off this web site. I followed the directions and I made box cakes out of Duncan Hines Butter cake, my favorite. I iced the top layer with strawberry icing out of the can and the rest I used fluffy white icing out of the can. It took about 3 hrs to decorate and I made my layers of cake the day before. I loved making it! This kids birthday cake idea was a hit with the kids!

The idea for this kids birthday cake idea was from the Wilton Yearbook; I made a smaller version than the book shows. First I started off with 3 cakes: 8 in., 6 in. and 4 in. The largest two I covered with white buttercream frosting and the top with pink buttercream.
The balls, stripes, flowers, dots and strawberries were all created out of fondant that has been tinted (the strawberries were basically fondant hearts with green icing for the leaves). The white dripping at the top of each cake was also white fondant. The pink swirls on the bottom cake were piped on with a #3 tip.
This kids birthday cake idea has many steps, so it takes a while to make, but it was a lot of fun!
