My name is Emily and I first got the idea about a barbie cake eleven years ago. my co-worker had got her daughter one from Rileys bakery. I had been purchasing them since I had my little girl seven years ago. I worked in a deli for about six months. I decided to try it myself.
I used two round nine inch cake pans. used two cake mixes, four layers. I purchased the Wilton tips and icing color from Wal-mart. I baked the cakes and let them cool to room temp iced one layer at a time and stacked them luckily they formed the shape of the dress without having to shape them myself.
I used buttercream a little thin to coat the top of barbie and it formed to her making the dress look as though it had creases where the material lay around her waist. Sorry to place the barbie i removed a little circle out of the middle with a serrated knife. placed her in the center then commenced to ice her. after icing the whole cake i went back over with pink and purple(which looks blue in the photo)using a star tip. for my very first try i think it turned out wonderful, and will be making my own from now on.
