This is my version of a Thomas the Tank Engine cake. I made this for my nephew’s 3rd birthday.
Everything, with the exception of Sir Topham Hatt, is edible. I made a mold for the face and then made the face out of chocolate. The trees, sign, track, etc. are also made of chocolate. The “dirt” under the tracks is made of toffee. The “smoke” is white cotton candy.
The cake is 26″ long. I made three sheet pan cakes – the third one was cut in half and added to the ends of the other cakes to make the 26″ length.
This is absolutely amazing. My husband and i are amazed with it. I made a Betty Boop one for my nan, uploaded it today too , it was my first ever attempt at doing one. I hope i get to that standard xx
Hi,
Your cake is BEAUTIFUL.. I’m going to attempt one for my sons 4th B-Day.. he is Thomas Crazed ;-)
I am going to buy the Kit but I am going to add a extra piece to make the track and grass, sign and trees the way you did. What did you do to make the grass look like grass?
There’s a Wilton tip that you use for grass and fur – it’s great.
Your cake is wonderful! You mentioned making a mold for his face. Can you explain how you did that? I have to say…his face is what scares me. You nailed it! It is spot on. But I’m afraid I won’t get the details right and poor Thomas will just look deranged or sad!
