I made this cake for my son Andrew’s second birthday. Because my little girl has soy allergies, the only way I could ensure a soy-free character cake was to make one myself. I made a yellow cake from scratch then frosted it with white Wilton Buttercream Icing. My husband found a front facing picture of Thomas on-line and we printed about 6 copies. I cut out the basic outline of Thomas and placed it on the icing once it had set (took about an hour) Once I lightly pressed it down, I removed the paper to find a faint outline. I did the same with the eyes, mouth, bumper, ect. until I knew I could fill the rest of the details in by hand. I separated icing into batches so I could color them with Wilton colors and once I had all the colors, I piped the outline of Thomas and “colored” him in. This was my first home made cake and my family and friends were impressed with the way it turned out. Apparently so was my son, as he referred to it as his “choo-choo” cake over and over. It was the perfect addition to his Thomas birthday!
