My granddaughter wanted a Wow Wow Wubbzy cake for her birthday so I told her I would make it for her. There are no commercially available cake pans for this character so I had to get creative.
This cake requires three cake mixes, one for each 13×9 pan and one for the three balloons, the kickball and the ears. The pans I used for the balloons and the kickball are small spring form pans for cheesecakes. The pan for the ears is actually a metal 1 cup measuring cup (after baking and cooling cut in half ).
After cooling the two 13×9 cakes, level the one for the bottom and apply icing to the top. Set the other 13×9 cake on top. I used a toothpick to make an outline for the mouth, eyes and nose. I used a spoon to apply the icing to the mouth and to smooth the icing, dip the spoon in water and smooth icing.
The eyes and the nose are done in the same way. For the white highlight on the eyes and nose use icing thinned with water and use a toothpick to apply. The main body is iced with a star tip on an icing bag. All of the icing was tinted with Wilton icing colors. The balloons are iced with a little extra thick icing, then smoothed out with a cake spatula dipped in water.
The kickball was decorated the same way as the balloons, then you add the spots with the tip of the spatula and then smooth out with the spatula dipped in water. The strings for the balloons are done with a pipping tip on the icing bag.
Finally the arms legs and tail are done with craft foam sheets cut to shape, and the hands are from a clapper party toy. I hope you guys like it. I know my granddaughter does.
