This cake is a double layer 12″ X 18″ sheet cake that was made for a bridal shower. The bride and groom were going on a cruise for their honeymoon and wanted a beach theme / fantasy cake.
The cake was filled and covered in buttercream frosting. I used gold sanding sugar for the beach sand and the ocean waters were aqua tinted buttercream covered with tinted gel. The gel was purchased – made by Wilton. It comes in a clear form which can be tinted as desired.
The large shell was made from a candy mold using a basic sugar mold recipe. The small shells were made using white chocolate, slightly marbled with colored candy melts, using a candy mold.
The King Neptune and Mermaid were purchased, as was the two small dolls (Polly Pockets). The beach blanket was made from fondant and the accessories such as the picnic basket, camera and soda cans were from a child’s Barbie collection.
The cake was a big success – everyone loved it !!
