My daughter requested a hunting/wilderness related cake for her 12th birthday and this Wilderness Theme Birthday Cake is what I came up with. I started with a basic 13×9 cake mix cake. I dyed buttercream frosting light green to go on the entire cake. I then created evergreen trees using decorator icing dyed dark green and a star tip on ice cream cones.
After that I added shrubbery by using the large star tip and placing the shrubs in random places all over and along the bottom of the cake. I made a river using decorator icing dyed blue and created the rapids with random motions of my fingertips. I added plastic animals including a beaver and beaverdam made of pretzel sticks to the middle of the river and sprinkled granulated sugar all over the cake to look like a dusting of snow.
My daughter’s birthday is in January and right now there is 10 inches of snow outside so I thought that would be a neat touch. She loved her cake. I hope you all do too! I had a lot of fun making it!
