Coolest Sewing Machine Cake

My mom and I made this Sewing Machine Cake as a retirement cake for someone who loves to quilt and sew. The machine itself is sculpted from krispy treats, covered in a layer of almond bark and then covered again in chocolate marshmallow fondant. I baked an 11×15 cake twice and stacked together with icing in between. All of the accessories were hand sculpted from gumpaste.

I painted the blades of the scissors and seam ripper and the thimble with silver pearl dust mixed with a drop or two of clear vanilla. The machine was hand painted with the word “SINGER” and a pretty curly que design with gold pearl dust mixed with clear vanilla. I used an edible food marker and wrote on the quilt with a stitched type writing “Happy Retirement Joyce, Sew Long!”

  1. Remarkable structural design and the authentic look of the Singer sewing machine is very good including the lettering and spools. I looks very real. Great Job.

  2. I can’t imagine how long it took you both to complete this. It is truly wonderful, so much detail. You should be very proud.
