This Homemade Shoe and Bag Cake was made for a friend’s 17 year old daughter. The cake for the shoe box and bag are carved from a chocolate Madeira cake filled with and covered with chocolate butter cream. The bag handles and shoes were made in advance using fondant mixed with tylos for stability. I made my own template for the sole of the shoe by just sketching the sole then laminated it and cut round for a sturdy template.
The heels were made first and it is important to angle the slope of the heel right so that the sole sits on top looking realistic. I finished off the shoes and bag using a stitch tool and a butterfly impression sheet for the bag. The fondant on the shoe box I made myself with marshmallows and icing sugar as it has such a lovely flavour. I made the barcode on the shoe box with petal paste and an edible black pen marker and ruler. I made the candle holders from fondant and tylos and the same for the letters using the funky letter kit. I dotted all the candle holders and letters with royal icing and finished with a couple of butterflies and some sparkle.
The biggest thing to remember on this sort of cake is getting the proportions reasonably correct.
