I made this Fairy Garden Cake by making two 18″ rectangle slabs – a vanilla flavoured one and a strawberry flavoured one, then I formed a 1 by cutting the cake in half. One half was used as the body of the one, the other half was cut in two – one piece used as the base of the one and the other was cut into 2 triangles, and 1 was used as the top piece of the one. I ate the other triangle while having a break , with a cup of tea.
I then added buttercream and jam between the layers and iced it, then covered it with fondant icing. I made the fairies out of fondant. The flowers and toadstools are also fondant – but were much were easier. I used the website cake-central.com which gives step by step instructions on how to make a fondant fairy and you don’t even need any tools or cutters. I was so pleased with the results. It took a lot of time and effort, but it came out fantastic. The lettering for her name was traced out from photocopied paper then cut around with a knife.
All in all, I hope you like my masterpiece. I hope my little girl likes it when she sees it later.
