I made this Handbag Birthday Cake for a carer who looks after my mum-in-law at a local nursing home. It is a 6inch butter Madeira spongecake and I sliced a piece off one side to give it a handbag shape, then split it and filled it with jam and buttercream and turned it on its end.
I crumb coated it with vanilla butercream then covered it with fondant which I had coloured blue with food gel colouring. I covered the board with white fondant, then ruched it to look like a satin cloth and sprinkled it with edible lustre. I placed the cake on the board and added zip and handles (which I had made previously out of gumpaste and put to dry).
The roses were hand modeled without cutters. I am happy with the result and hope the recipient likes it. Her birthday will be on Monday.
I love it!! Well done you…wish someone would make me a cake like that lol :D
