I cut the shape of the shoe from a 9X13 pan cake after freezing for a few hours, this makes carving much easier. Frost with a crumb coat of butter cream frosting, then apply different cut out shapes & colors of rolled out fondant. I started applying the fondant from the front to the back of the shoe. The rings for the shoelaces are cut form a circular decorating tip, size 12 & the shoelaces are fondant rolled long. I rolled the long strip around a pencil to get a more realistic shoe lace effect. For the tongue of the shoe I formed a red piece of fondant like that part of the shoe thickly and placed it directly on the crumb coat, then covering it mostly up with more fondant but a different color (blue). To get the height of the heel of the shoe, I just formed fondant in top of the cake & attached it with piping gel, which is what I used to attach all the pieces of fondant with addition of the butter cream crumb coat.
The cake is all about preference of color and detail. I had a similar Nike shoe as a model and used my sister Nikki’s favorite colors and style for the inspiration for this Nike Shoe Cake .
