I got this idea for this Luau Girl Birthday Cake from this site! I started out by making all of the flowers out of royal frosting two days before I decorated the cake. The only thing not edible was the steams used in the flowers and the Barbie. The flowers are supposed to look like hibiscus flowers.
I used a 14 inch round as the base and a Wilton Barbie pan for the Hula girl. I then put dowels under the Hula girl due to the weight of the girl. I used a buttercream frosting recipe by Wilton. I colored the frosting brown for the skirt. After the frosting was in place, I arranged the flowers.
It made the actual cake preparation so much faster doing the flowers ahead of time. It was a big hit!
