I got this idea for a Spring Flowers Cake from Woman’s World. I had seen the picture and wanted to try it but didn’t really have an occasion till we decided to have a going away party for some friends of ours. I made the suitcase cake for both and this one was hers.
I did 2 rounds in vanilla and iced in between with vanilla Betty Crocker icing. Then iced all the rest with the same icing and put some in an icing bag to do the ribbon around the edges. For the calla lilies, just cut a circle from fondant and then did a small stem and rolled the stem in the circle and pulled the edges back to form it, and the others I used cookie cutters for and put straws in a glass and hung them upside down untill they dried.
The leaves are circles cut in half and then drew some lines in them with a knife or toothpick and just shaped and hung on the edge of a glass to curl the way you want. It was very good.
This was the first time I ever did a cake like this and ever worked with fondant.
