This is only my second novelty cake. I got my inspiration from a really old Cake Decorating book borrowed from the Library. I called it “Cabin Fever” as i made it during recent bad snow and ice where nobody in the country was able to leave their houses and travel anywhere safely. It’s a victoria sponge cut into three equal pieces with the third piece shaped to fit as a roof. I used buttercream icing for the filling and for the outside of the house, and buttercream icing with added melted chocolate to cover the roof, which i tiled with chocolate buttons. I used “liquorice allsorts” for the windows and chimney, candy flowers to decorate the edge of the house, and chocolate finger biscuits for the door. I texted my in-laws who live minutes away, and they all came walking to my (real) house for cake and coffee. An enjoyable and surprisingly easy cake both to make and eat!
