I made this Hawaiian Luau Volcano Birthday Cake for my daughter’s 6th birthday. It was easy and fun to make and a great hit with the kids – especially when the smoke (dry ice) came out.
I used 2 round cakes (one small and one large) and a bundt cake between them. I placed a glass in the top two cakes to hold the dry ice. Then, I frosted the cakes with chocolate frosting.
The grass is coconut that I colored by placing in a Ziploc bag with a few drops of green food coloring and shaking it well.
For the lava, I colored the frosting and placed it in the microwave for 15 seconds to make it more liquid. Then I used a large spoon to spread it on top of the cake.
