This guitar cake was prepared from 15 cups yellow cake batter in a Wilton square 16×16 cake pan, cut by hand to shape, and then iced with homemade buttercream that was tinted in green and black to form the different sections of the guitar.
The guard is rolled gumpaste hand cut and dyed black with food coloring and then covered in black sugar crystals. The strings were non-edible metal soldering rods. The knobs, tuners and bridge were made from hand formed gum paste, painted with black or green food coloring.
The cake was made for our daughter’s 11th birthday, inspired by the guitar hero game she was receiving as a gift. It was laid out in two pieces, one for the body and one for the neck on 13×9 cake boards covered in silver foil, and served around 50 people.
Both children and adults thought the cake was a huge hit.
