This is the first time I have made a guitar cake. It was for my son’s 15th birthday, as he has a guitar.
I traced around the guitar and made it to scale. It wasn’t until I put it near the cake board that I realized it was too small (board) so I scaled it down to fit the board which meant that the neck of the guitar is a little shorter and I had to flip the end bit over (pardon me not very good with the name parts of guitars). I made it with chocolate and vanilla cake recipes of mine and combined them to get the marble effect when cut.
After measuring the cake I made templates to cut the cake out and place on the board. Once that was done I covered it with chocolate ganache and the fondant. I made the nobs out of left over fondant and wrapped foil around the outside of them. I used embroidery cotton for string (brilliant idea I got from a lady on the net) which I had held in with toothpicks and the sting tighteners were toothpicks and fondants shapes inside foil.
my son and everybody were amazed at how well it turned out. Cameras were clicking everywhere and everyone was telling me how realistic it looked. I also had a lot of fun making it, if your curious how it would turn out, give it a go, it’s worth it. So much fun….oohhh and it took me about 36 hours to make not including the cooking of the cake.
