Let me just say that this is my first cake EVER. Well, besides the ones you leave in a rectangular pan and slather with frosting!
My oldest son turned 3 this year and because he LOVES all things musical, we decided to throw him a Rockstar themed party. One of his most favorite toys is his electric guitar, so naturally, a Guitar Birthday Cake was a must.
I got a great deal on a Wilton cake pan online, but wasn’t very impressed with the directions on how to decorate said cake (not a fan of all those little frosting stars or whatever they are). So I opted to pipe the frosting on and smooth it out with a knife. Hint: Hot water and a clean towel for dipping and wiping is a must! Oh and another valuable lesson I learned? A little bit of red dye goes a LONG way! Trust me (it’s not pink, it’s red).
I used Hershey’s bars, Red M&Ms, Pull-n-Peel Licorice, and Mini Reese’s cups to decorate. Turned out great for my first try, I thought! More importantly, he LOVED it!
WELL DONE on the guitar, it looks as if you are a pro at it, and not just a beginner. I too just made my very first CAKE also in the shape of a guitar. Great learing experiance hopfully for the both of us!
