My 7 year old wanted an all girls birthday party, and what is more girly than a tea party?
Not wanting to spend a fortune, I Googled teapot cakes and found this site. I picked from my favorite ideas for a Teapot Birthday Cake here and added some of my own. I have never made a “fancy” cake before.
Using 2 packages of Duncan Hines Lemon Supreme cake mix, I filled my small pampered chef batter bowl, a foil sheet cake tin and one cupcake cup. The batter bowl takes a little longer to bake, about 50 minutes.
After cooling completely, I trimmed the top of the batter bowl cake to make flat, then carefully removed from bowl and placed on wax paper. I also put the sheet cake on wax paper. This made them easier to handle.
First frosting the sheet cake with pale pink frosting, then placing the batter bowl upside down in the center of the sheet cake. After frosting the “pot” I placed the cupcake upside down on the top and frosted a bright magenta. My friend did the “fancier” frosting of flowers and trim. If she hadn’t helped, I would have decorated all in candy.
For the handle, I used purple gumdrops on a bent wire. For the spout, frosted a Keebler’s sugar cone and kept in in place with a kabob stick. The lid topper is a lollipop. Gumdrops also trim the lid.
My daughter was quite pleased!
yours is the only one with such an easy handle! thanks for the great advice!
