I made this Rocket Ship Cake for my son’s 5th birthday. I made the cake from a mix, and used two loaf pans to get the right size. I based my cake of many pictures I found, but I simplified, as I like to keep things very clean.
The cake is covered with a layer of store-bought frosting, and homemade fondant. I used the ends of three ice cream cones for the rear of the rocket, and put in fruit roll-ups as the fire. I baked cookies and used a small gingerbread man cookie cutter for the astronauts, and decorated them using a milk and powdered sugar icing, plus piped-on store bought icing.
The moon on the right was made with gray colored fondant, with craters poked in with my knuckle! This is one of my favorites!
