Coolest Ship Wrecked Cake

My son wanted a pirate party for his 5th birthday. Being adventurous I decided to bake and decorate a Ship Wrecked Cake myself rather than shop buy.

I made two 10″ rectangular cakes, cooked them, let them cool then put them in the freezer overnight. In the morning I got them out, let them defrost a little and carved into a boat shape (the cake is easier to cut slightly frozen).

I then buttercreamed the layers together and applied buttercream all over the cake. I let it set and set out on the fondant. I basically saw other ships but didn’t want to be to perfect, a ship wreck is a great way of having a great cake without being too perfect.

I added little touches like the squid, starfish and rum bottle, just experiment and see where it takes you. To add an extra surprise I coloured the sponges, 1 green and one blue so when he cuts the cake it will be sea/ocean colored.

Happy Baking.
