I’ve never attempted a fondant cake before and my son gave me quite a challenge for my first one for his 6th birthday. The brief was for a pirate ship that’s sinking with an octopus pulling it into the water. He initially wanted a treasure chest on the deck falling into the water as well, but during the decorating phase, he decided it would look better on the island with the octopus trying to pull it into the water as well. The inspiration was Pirates of the Caribbean. He was pretty happy with what I came up with and proud as punch when everyone sang happy birthday to him. I’m very happy with this Pirate Ship Cake as well!
The cake inside was a white chocolate mud cake layered with white chocolate ganache. I bought chocolate fondant ready made which was delicious and easy. The best part was I found some “spray” icing which gave a great effect onto the octopus. I should really have taken the extra time to finish off the board properly with a ribbon or something, but I didn’t have any on hand at the time.
That is by far the most awesome pirate cake I have ever seen. I thought I made a pretty good fist of my 3 childrens birthday cakes over the years but you clearly have the creative gene. Well done.
