Homemade Pirate Galleon Cake

I made this style of cake last year for my son’s 5th birthday. It is a very easy cake to make and effective. Lucky he asked for it again. Unlike his elder brother who has asked for a Harry Potter or and Italian Job cake! I looked at all the pictures on this site and picked the easiest style.

It was made with two round chocolate sponge cakes cut in half. Three were used and sandwiched together with butter cream. The remaining half cake was used to make the two higher decks. The cake was spread with chocolate butter cream and scored to make it look like wood. Chocolate fingers made the sides, Malteasers the cannon balls and Rollos the cannons. The images for the sails were downloaded from the internet.

I always add plastic figures to the cake because I cannot make them!. The toys also make up a present once the cake is eaten.

It is a very easy cake to make – perfect for the cake maker who cannot craft figures.
