I made this Christmas Tree cake for our family Christmas day. I used the Wilton tree pan using Wilton’s basic yellow cake recipe but instead of using 1 1/2 tsp vanilla I used 1 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp almond extract. For the icing I used Wilton’s buttercream icing recipe adding a few tsp.’s of water to make it less stiff.
To decorate I used a Wilton tip 233, grass tip, to make it look like a real tree. For the trunk I just left it undecorated as it looked realistic as it was. Next I used a Wilton tip 46 for the yellow garland. For the Christmas balls I used assorted candies, mainly Runts. The star was made from white chocolate candy melts tinted yellow with food coloring. I heated the chocolate and immediately place it inside of a star cookie cutter on wax paper. Then placed it in the fridge and let it harden for about 5 minutes. Once hardened I cut a toothpick to the right size and stuck it in the backside middle of the star and placed it onto the tree.
This cake was very easy. It’s only a little time consuming using the grass tip. But, once you get the hang of it it goes very quickly!
Using a cookie cutter to mold the star- great idea!! Thanks for sharing :)
Awesome tree, I was looking for ideas to decorate mine when I came across your picture. Great idea about melting the chocolate in a cookie cutter! :)
