This Homemade Harry Potter Monster Book Cake has 2 layers of chocolate cake with buttercream frosting and hazelnut mousse filling. I carved the book shape after filling the cake and covered it with buttercream. Later, I covered the cake with ivory fondant. I painted the sides of book with edible antique gold paint in vanilla.
The Golden Snitch is a small rubber ball which I covered with fondant, made indentations and then painted golden. I attached parchament paper to curved floral wire and cut the edges out in order to make it’s wings.
I tried making Harry’s glasses out of fondant and they kept breaking. After 3-4 failed attempts, I made glasses out of floral wire and then covered the whole frame with black fondant. The wand is also made out of fondant.
The Sorting Hat is an icecream cone filled with melted chocolate which was left to dry overnight thus making the cone quite sturdy enough to take weight of fondant covering. I draped the fondant on top of the chocolate cone and gave it the famous wrinkles that the sorting hat has. Also did some dark painting on the wrinkles and dusted it with cocoa powder to give that old leather look.
This is one of my favs, Im a Potter junkie though. Very creative and beautiful!
