I made this Shark Birthday Cake for my son’s birthday, it is made from 4 Madeira cakes, which I coloured red and sandwiched together using red buttercream. I left the cake in the fridge over night so it was pretty solid ready for carving.
I first cut diagonally across half of the top layer of the cake and flipped and stuck it back on to give the head a point. I then went on to carve the mouth, eyes and finally smoothed the whole cake over.
I iced the whole thing in royal blue icing to give the sharks skin a shiny look. The grey bit is fondant as are the fins, flippers, eyes and teeth. The blood is just jam with extra red food colouring added.
Congratulations, what a great cake! My three year old son Fergus loved this picture: you did a great job. He especially liked the jam/blood!
