I made this cake from the examples already posted. I simply gift wrapped a cookie sheet in gold and drew in the railroad tracks.
I found that red vines have a “peelable” version so that I did not have to find rope but the thinner peeled ropes from the red vines were a perfect fit for outlining. I also found that mini oreo cookies were great for the wheels.
I have done over 20 of these custom dimensional cakes for people over the years and this was the easiest cake I have ever done. It took 1 hour to bake it off and just about two hours for full frosting, cutting and assembling. The great thing is that each mini bread pan is the perfect 2-3 person serving so it was really easy to figure out how many “cars” I needed for the guest count.
