After researching a great construction vehicle cake for my twins’ 3rd birthday, I found the perfect example of a Excavator Birthday Cake I was looking for on funfamily.com.
I baked a pound cake instead of buying a pre-made one like it suggested, cut off one end and placed on top for the cab. The entire cake was then frosted with white icing that I dyed using yellow food coloring. I basically followed the picture to create the rest (chocolate donuts and M&Ms for the wheels, Twix for the arms of the loader, Dots candy for the lights, and Twizzlers with skewers placed in them for the crane, and chocolate frosting for the windows).
The most time consuming part was frosting all the various parts of the vehicle and then assembling them all so it was secure. It was fun to use a variety of ingredients such as various candies to create such a cake. It was a hit at the party and my boys loved it!
