My son was having a ‘SPY/SWAT/ARMY’ birthday. He and his mom picked out a tank piñata so I figured a homemade US army tank cake would be perfect.
The bottom is made out of two 9x13s with the tops shaved off of each so that they were flat. The turret is a single 8×8 cake cut out in a circle. I then crumb coated the cake and let it sit over night.
The next day I frosted the base with the army green color. The tank treads are the black licorice ‘Nibs’ and the wheels are made from the melting chocolate. Luckily my local shop happen to have the green color. The black dots on the wheels are made from the black gel is the lettering on the tank. The gun is a straw that is simply frosted. The homemade US army tank cake was a huge hit at the party.
