Out of all the Mario characters “Bullet Bill” was the hardest because it looks so simple. The Homemade Mario Bullet Bill Birthday Cake design is: four 6” round cakes stacked for the bullet portion and three 8” rounds for the culvert portion. I pre-made the golden stars and eyes from royal icing because they need to dry for at least 3 days. Bill’s arms are Mr. Potato Head’s arms.
Essentially I had to crumb coat and frost Bill’s body and used long wooden BBQ skewers to keep it all together. Carving his nose and completely frosting while Bill rested on the back/flat part of the bullet I let that dry overnight. Also frost the culvert part leaving it looking rough.
Then use wax paper to gently tip him over on his side and transfer him to the culvert, which has also been completely frosted. Finish frosting the back of the bullet and make casing indentation. The arms were heavy so I had to use a straw attached to one arm and push it through the cake just coming out the other side to attach other arm. Some versions of Bill have teeth. I made some from the royal icing, but they looked to evil so I omitted them. Black frosting took the whole bottle to get this black and I used what was left and mixed with another batch of white buttercream for the dark gray. I used 4-double batches of frosting for this cake.
