I made this calculator cake for my bookkeeper’s birthday. I wanted to make something that reflected on what she does. I came up with this idea. She loved it and was surprised. I used a 9×9 square cake pan. Let cake cool. Even off top of cake. Place cake in freezer for about one hour for easier frosting. (If you still have a problem with the cake crumbs going onto the frosting, use white corn syrup and put some on a spreader. Spread over frosting so it will glide making it easier to frost the cake.)
I did white frosting on bottom layer. I used a pound cake to make the top. Cut a slanted piece of pound cake by measuring and making sure it fits on top of square cake. Frost that with chocolate. Place on top and press down so the cake sticks to each other. Outline the cake with edible dots. This makes the cake stand out more.
To make the buttons use Hershey milk chocolate bars, turn over to smooth side. Using icing, write numbers 0-9 on each piece. Also make your -+= etc. buttons as you see on a calculator. To make calculator tape I used candy buttons. Roll candy buttons up and place paper clip so it doesn’t unravel. Use one piece of chocolate licorice. Cut off 1-1 1/2 inches of each end. Insert toothpick to both sides of licorice. Place inside of candy buttons. Use a couple of small pretzel sticks to hold up tape (place pretzel sticks under the candy buttons
