I decided to make a Valentine’s cake to take to a friend’s house for dessert so I just decided to be creative. I had two different size heart shaped cake pans so I decided to put them next to each other instead of stacking them. I used one white cake mix and separated the mix in each of the pans. I made my own butter cream icing. I set about half of the white aside, set a small amount aside to tint red and tinted the remaining icing pink.
I first iced the small cake with white and then used some of the red icing to add a shell border with a star tip to outline the shape of the heart. I then used some more of the white icing and used a medium size star tip to create a shell border on the bottom of the cake. I kind of decided to use an up and down technique this time instead of the usual shell border. I used some edible heart shaped candy for the top of the cake.
For the second and larger heart shaped cake, I used the icing tinted pink and cover the whole cake with that icing. I then used some of the white icing and used a star tip to add a shell border to outline the shape of the heart. I then used the remaining pink icing and used the same medium star tip as above to create a shell border on the bottom of the cake. I also decided to use the same method as above (the up and down technique) instead of the usual shell border. I also used some edible heart shaped candy for the top of the cake. Enjoy!
