I decided to copy the Hoot puppet my son has, he loved Hoot. I made Hoot’s head using the Wilton sports ball pan for his body and ended up using a large jam sponge roll, but if I was to do it again I would use a loaf tin and cut down to size and round. I slowly cut the head to the right shape and started with Hoots eyes, legs, wings, tail, beak and heart.
I’d use fondant to do it again but I used royal icing and a pacolors color the icing. Shaped all the bits except the eyes, I found a ginger biscuit that was light and the perfect size and wrapped white icing around it. I used butter cream icing colored blue and using a fork poked myself around the whole cake. Attached all icing bits using tooth pics and using a black edible ink pen added detail to eyes, wings and heart. I had to prop the eyes up overnight using skewers due to how heavy they were.
I was very happy with the result and I got a lot of praise for my effort. My son loved him!!
