I have made all of my niece Hayden Grace’s birthday cakes (a couple of which are published on Coolest Birthday Cakes already) for her 5 birthdays, but this one, from her 5th birthday is by far my favorite. She requested a “Rapunzel” cake and putting together a few ideas I found on CBC’s website I created this one.
I baked three graduated round cakes and covered them with pink fondant. Then I baked a Wilton Sports Ball pan for the dome. The dome decoration was made with small hearts I cut out of white fondant with a tiny cookie cutter and the flag sports Hayden’s initials. I made the flag a week ahead of time so that I could let it form on a small dowel (one to hold the flag and one to create the flying wrinkle effect). Every part of the decoration is fondant except for the windows, the stars between the layers and the grass around the pathway and bottom. The writing on the cake board is fondant cut with small alphabet letters and says “Happy Birthday Hayden Grace”.
The greatest part about making this cake is that any imperfections in the fondant covering can be covered by a brick or window! She absolutely loved her special cake and took pride in telling everyone at her farm party that her Aunt Tisho made it “just for her”.
the sweetest thing I have ever seen. Perfect for a little princess. It reminds me of a cake my Grandma made for me when I was a little girl. It’s perfect, and makes me wish I had a little girl of my own
