Muddy Monster Truck Birthday Cake

My husband and I worked together on this muddy Monster Truck birthday cake. We used the Wilton Race Car pan for the car body, following the instructions for the cake pan. Then we used 4 mini Angel food cake pans to make the monster tires. Baked one additional chocolate cake to cut up for the “dirt/mud”.

After cutting up the cake and arranging it on the foil lined cake board, we melted some chocolate frosting and drizzled it around to make it “muddy”. After removing the cake from the race car pan we had to cut the top back off to make it look more like a truck than a car. We then placed it on the “dirt/mud’ and attached the tires to the truck body with frosting. When the truck was in just the right spot we colored some frosting black and using the smooth icing spatula we iced the windows/windshield and tires.

Then using a tooth pick we carefully made the tread marks on the tires. Next we colored some more frosting red and using the star frosting tip we covered the truck body.  We then piped some black frosting on the front and back bumpers and the number 3 on the hood and some grey frosting for the grill. We used mini marshmallows for the head lights/lamps and pretzel sticks for the roll bars on the back of the truck. And there you have it!  It only took like 2 or so hours to get it to perfection (wink, wink) but well worth it!  Turned out very awesome and we had a very happy little 3 yr old boy and many admirers!
