First of all I looked at local bakery websites to see if there was anything gymnastics themed in their catalogs, there was not anything that jumped out at us. We also could not find any good gymnastics toppers or figurines for cupcakes, so my husband and I decided a homemade cake shouldn’t be too hard. He was right it wasn’t.
We used skewers we found at our local grocery store and a hot glue gun to make the gymnastics bars and I painted them. I kept the colors red, white and blue based off of the USA gymnastics team.
For the balance beam I used two thin wood pieces, painted them brown and hot glued the legs on and the last part was the blue fondant for the floor. I added a winner medal to it since my daughter is in competitive gymnastics. The cake itself was red velvet with homemade cream cheese frosting.
