We made this headless Halloween cake for a friend’s Halloween Party.
We used vanilla boxed cake and mixed it with pound cake to make it firmer. This helps keep heavier cakes from sinking in on themselves.
The bottom layer is 10 inches. We started by marbling white, black and olive green fondant together to make a spooky background. Then, we used more fondant to cut out grave stones and trees.
The second layer is 8 inches. We covered it in white fondant. Then, we took some red icing and heated it in a microwave to melt it. Next, we slowly poured it on the second layer, allowing it to drip down and giving the blood effect.
The top layer was two 6 inch cakes stacked on top of one another. We wrapped it in black fondant, while covering just the top with white fondant.
We used more fondant to fashion chest straps, buttons and a collar. We then poured more melted red icing on top to give it a severed head look.
Finally, the pumpkin was made from Rice Krispie treats. We iced them and covered them in orange fondant. We used icing to make a face and fondant to make a stem.
The cake was a huge hit at the party!
