I have made all of my children’s cakes for the past 9 years! To me, it makes it more personal and the expression on their faces when they see their cake for the first time is priceless! I think this super-hero themed cake for my son’s 4th birthday received the best reaction by far!
This super-hero cake consists of four layers which happen to be his 4 favorite characters… the Hulk, Spiderman, Superman, and Batman!
The Hulk’s fist was made with homemade Rice Krispie treats. I molded them into the fist.
I used Styrofoam for the Spiderman and Superman layers instead of real cake because I knew we wouldn’t want to waste cake! The batman layer is the real cake!
I made all of the symbols freehand and attached them to finish the layers. Then, I piped on the icing for the finishing touches. I couldn’t get the red icing the right color, so I improvised with red candy!
I was a little intimidated with the fondant, so I had a friend show me the right way to roll it out and apply it to layers.
My son’s reaction was awesome! He just kept saying, “Hulk smash!!!” (His favorite character) and “look Spiderman, Superman, Batman…… Awesome….. Oh my gosh….” and on and on!!!
He kept his outfit on for three days and wouldn’t take it off and doesn’t want me to throw the rest of the fake layers away.
The cake was a huge hit!
