This is an anti-gravity Halloween cake I made for my grandson to donate for the Cake Walk at his school’s Halloween party.
- The bottom cake is a 10 inch white cake with buttercream frosting and fondant decorations.
- The M&M witch is completely edible and made out of fondant.
- The witch’s pot is chocolate cake, baked in a small Pyrex bowl covered in chocolate buttercream frosting, and colored with some black food coloring.
- The little handles on the side of the pot are made out of fondant and attached with a little piece of spaghetti noodles.
For the M&M anti-gravity portion of the cake, I used a balloon stick and glued the M&Ms on with candy melts. There are videos on YouTube on how to do this. It’s pretty easy to do, but oh my gosh, it is a bit time consuming, so allow some extra time.
My thought behind this cake was that the M&M witch would put a magical spell on the bag of M&Ms. LOL! I had been wanting to try an anti-gravity cake so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to try one out.
When I delivered this to my grandson today he was SO excited to take it to his Halloween party tomorrow night. He and his little brother said they’re hoping to win it on the cake walk… ha-ha!!!
I would also like to mention that I had a problem with the handles staying on the little (pot) cake. I should have made them smaller. The other problem is that the raw spaghetti noodles that I used to attach them, pick up the moisture from the cake and the frosting and caused them go soft and lose their support.
I really wanted to make a bigger stacked cake, but thought it might be a bit much for a cake walk. As always the vision in my head for the cake and the end result never quite match up, but it was a lot of fun dreaming up and making this cake!
