Materials needed – Wilton’s Stand-up Teddy Bear pan, ear template from Wilton’s site, fondant, large marshmallows, toothpicks and butter cream. Bake cake according to Wilton’s directions, allow to cool overnight.
In the beginning
Once you have your cake cooled, trim off the teddy bears ears. Trace Wilton’s ear template onto cardboard, cut out and wrap in foil. Attach to cake with dowels. I first used toothpicks and they were not sturdy enough, my ears kept falling out! Make trunk out of fondant and secure to cake with toothpicks. Make “arms” out of large marshmallows and attach using toothpicks.
Add some features
Ice front of ears, tops of arms, end of trunk, and feet with light pink frosting. Pipe in eyes with white butter cream, pat smooth. I used Wilton’s black sparkle gel for the pupils.
Stars, stars and more stars.
Completely cover the remaining part of the cake with grey stars. I used tip 18. This takes a while! I had to remove the marshmallow arms in order to cover the legs. Luckily they are easy to replace!
Finishing touches!
This cake was for a one year old photo shoot, so the mom asked with I would add a pink bow that matched the girl’s dress. I got to see the cake at the end of the photo shoot – appeared to be enjoyed!
