My daughter who is in grade primary decided she wanted a black cat cake to bring to school on Halloween. This is what I came up with.
I baked two 8 inch round cakes, that was enough to do the body. I cooked two more for the head, tail, ears, and paws. Then it was cutting, carving and stacking with buttercream frosting. I frosted the face white and then outlined the facial features in charcoal. The ears were done in grey and black dragged threw with a fork.
The whole cat was covered in black frosting, nose in grey, red for mouth and piped in green with black for eyes. The whiskers were spaghetti dyed with black food coloring. The collar was silver candy balls and candycorn for tag. The claws were white airhead candy.
The mouse was chocolate truffle rolled in cocoa, his eyes were red heart candy broke in two, the ears were jubes and the tail white airhead candy rolled in cocoa.
My daughter and her entire class loved the cake and it was a lot of fun to make.
