Coolest Snake Cake

I made this snake cake for my son Jayden’s 10th reptile birthday party last year October 2008. The scales were made out of roll out fondant and coloured with food die. I cut them using a small oval shape cutter. You will have to make the scales in advance, so as to let them dry out.

The cake is white mud cake and I used a doughnut shaped tin to cook it in. You will need to cook the cake three times over and then cut it up to get the shape right. I covered the cake with green butter cream first, so the scales would stick.

Red licorice was used for the snakes tongue. Chocolate flake was used for the logs and the lizards were plastic toy decorations. The leaves, grass and reeds were fake, bought from as shop that sells fake flowers to add effect to the cake theme.

Not a difficult cake to make, but is very time consuming and very effective. My son really loved his snake cake as did all the guests that came for the party. I had lots of fun making this one.

  1. My daughter has just had a corn snake for her birthday so thought I would surprise her with a Snake cake. Yours is inspirational! I wont have the time this year to do one like this (birthday tomorrow)! but it certainly has given me some ideas. Great great cake
