This three tier Red Velvet cake was made for a birthday party for my daughter and her friend who share the same birthday.
The cakes were iced with cream cheese icing and then left to hard slightly before the fondant went on.
The fondant was rooled out and the cake layers were covered. The middle layer required a plastic cake plate supported by dowlings in the bottom layer. The top layer only required a separator plate because it was not heavy. The zebra strips were cut out free hand and attached using a little water on the underside of the stripes.
The seams were covered with black ribbon and ‘glued’ with royal icing and the feathers were added in the same fashion. The wires were inserted and the fondant balls stayed in place with a tiny bit of royal icing.
