I love this website and I refer to it often for a basic idea for my kids’ cakes. I made this after my 9 y/o son asked me for a lizard cake for his birthday. The day before the party, I made 2- 9×11 vanilla cakes and stacked then one on top of the other with pudding in the middle. Then I made Wilton royal icing and colored it tropical leaf colors. Then, using a pastry bag with a lg. leaf tip I piped out leaves onto a cookie sheet lined with waxed paper and let it harden overnight. The day of the party, I iced the cake with Betty Crocker chocolate frosting, leaving a spot open for the “pond”. I immediately stuck the hardened leaves onto the sides of the cake. I colored a bit of white icing blue and filled in the area for the “pond”. I made the flowers with fruit by the foot wrapped around itself and stuck them in the frosting. You might have to use some of the chocolate frosting to “glue things into place”. The “gravel” is butter toffee ice cream topping(ACMoore).I bought the lizards and butterflies at the dollar store and just placed them on. It was one of the easier cakes I’ve made and my son loved it!!
