This frog birthday cake was my first using fondant. I made the fondant myself hoping to possibly get a good taste with a marshmallow fondant. I used one 9 inch and two 8 inch round pans. I covered them with buttercream, then fondant as a base. I sprayed the “water” with cooking spray to give it a shiny finish and make it look more like a pond.
I decorated the borders with grass and leaves, using the Wilton tips. I made the cattails from toothpicks dipped in colored melting chocolate. The frogs I also made from molds with colored melting chocolate. The lily pads are made of cut-out fondant All the decorating was with buttercream and chocolate.
I had a LOT of fun doing this one and was happy it turned out well since I had not worked with fondant before. I think I will do it again, if I have the time! I would normally like a more simple cake–less busy–but my daughter loves to have lots going on with her cakes!
Hi I really like this cake. I want to know how to make it. or where can i buy one please
I tried to copy this cake because it was so cute and my daughter loves frogs! I was wondering what the colors of the icing and fondant are….mine came out much less vibrant.
So how did the marshmallow fondant turn out? If been curious about it myself. I do not like the taste of store bought either.
I just made my fondant to duplicate this cake, it is my first time ever making a cake, but it is looking well! the top layer i am making 6 mini cakes and using butter cream frosting to piece them together, each layer will have a different color until i get a rainbow effect!
