I made this Homemade Giraffe Birthday Cake for my sister-in-law’s 50th birthday party. The skeleton of the cake was a PVC pipe that I used to support the neck and head. The body is made of vanilla sponge cake with a Bavarian creme filling, with a vanilla buttercreme crumb coat and covered in an ivory fondant/modeling chocolate mixture.(I used that mixture because it holds up better on larger cakes).
The neck and head is rice krispie treats molded to the shape I needed and covered with the fondant mixture. The spots are chocolate fondant formed by hand to various shapes and sizes. The tail, mane, ears, and antlers are made from fondant and glued on in place.
I actually saw this cake in person at the birthday party. Amazing if you didn’t no it was a cake u thought it was a very large statue on a table. The details were unbelievable and very impressive…can’t wait to see the next centerpiece…
