This Princess Castle Birthday Cake was created for the daughter of a friend. She loved princesses and requested a “Princess Cake”. The cake is vanilla buttermilk with vanilla buttercream icing. The base was formed by 2 10 inch layers. Top is 2 8 inch round layers.
Turrets are formed by cutting circles from sheet cake using 2 inch biscuit cutters rather than using plastic or jelly rolls. This cake was more stable. I inserted a dowel through them for additional support. I placed ice cream cones on top of each turrets. The ice cream cones are covered with white chocolate candy melts covered with white sanding sugar.
I wanted to make a carriage. After many attempts, I carefully formed it using each half of the sports ball pan and cooling white chocolate candy melts. After each half solidified, I attached them with melted white chocolate and covered the seam with pink buttercream icing using star tip 16.
The wheels were formed from melted white chocolate candy melts. Because I need more support, I covered a small Styrofoam block with icing under the carriage. I covered the cake with vanilla buttercream icing and used blue spray rather than coloring the icing blue. Pink buttercream icing flowers were placed on the cake and pink icing was used to decorate turrets.
Using #4 tip I created vines for the flowers. I used a half shell for the base and top of each section of castle.
