This Candyland Castle Cake was made as a last minute addition to find at the end of the road in a life size Candy Land Game. As I am sure you are all aware, at the end of Candyland, you find King Candy and his candy castle.
It was very simple to make:
2 8×8 square (split cake batter for one cake between the 2),
2 8 inch round (split cake batter for one cake between the 2).
Let cool and Layer frosting between the layers.
To help support the weight of the cake, I used plastic straws (cut in half) as supports for the top layer.
White Frosting on the outside and decorate with Candy! Let you imagination run wild.
For the towers, I used Sugar and Wafer cones. The wafer cones were cut on the bottom so they would sink into the cake (use a very sharp bread knife for this!). For the sprinkles, I just used some of the white frosting and rolled the edges in non-pariels. The method I used for the sugar cones did not work for the wafer cones as the corn syrup was a bit hard to control and keep in the lines where I wanted the sprinkles.
For the Sugar cones, I heated corn syrup in the microwave for about 20 sec and quickly brushed it on the sugar cones and then rolled it in the colored sugar. If the corn syrup cools, just heat again and re-roll in the sugar.
For the Flags, I used toothpicks and ribbon with a bit of glue. As you can see the cake was decorated with gumdrops, gummy bears and black licorice.
